Debutante Cotillion Program seeks participants Program promotes the arts, teaches social graces Posted: August 5, 2013 - 11:08am The Capital-Journal The Social Graces School of Etiquette in Topeka is seeking young women and men to participate in its one-year Debutante Cotillion Program, which promotes the arts and raises awareness of the importance of civilities, according to a news release. The program fosters the educational goals of college-bound youth by focusing on etiquette, the arts and community service. The program gives youths who have demonstrated exemplary moral standards, school involvement and outside activities the opportunity to participate in workshops, awareness sessions and educational and personal growth activities that will serve them well as they transition into adulthood. The Court of Debutantes selected for 2013-14 will be honored for their personal, school and community accomplishments, as well as being a role model for their peers. The process begins with nominations being received by early May, followed by an invitational social in June. The program culminates with a Debutante Cotillion Ball, for ages 8 to 18, at 6 p.m. June 28, in the Ramada Inn Grand Ballroom. Tickets will be $40 for ages 8 and older. Proceeds from the cotillion ball provide scholarships for students at the Social Graces School of Etiquette. Activities for participants, such as volunteering with Keep America Beautiful, attending symphony/opera/orchestra performances, taking social graces classes at Southwest Baptist Church and attending family-hosted events, begin this month. Participants also will be coached in common courtesies, learn how to waltz and visit a French restaurant to practice dining etiquette skills.
